This painting is about how differently children and adults use boxes. Children have great imaginations. Give them a couple of cardboard boxes and you’ve given them a world of hope – a surprise and an opportunity to create and imagine. As adults we use more sophisticated and smart boxes to escape or understand the world. We often use boxes to physically store things or to compartmentalize life events in our head. Let’s never lose the ability to play as we did as children.

This painting is a play on the importance of (W)windows. What would we do without them? It’s amazing how a simple piece of glass surrounded by a frame can play such an important role in our lives. They inform us about the weather and help us feel connected to our community. They even entertain or distract us as we look outside at a tree, a bird, or someone walking their dog. For some people, they are their only window to the world. Whether it’s a window or the Windows operating system, they both play a significant role in keeping us connected physically or virtually. Finally, windows can be interior - we can look into our souls.
